The pipe organ at St. John's is a gift from Mary Waltz in memory of her husband, Robert R. Waltz. It was built for the church by Bond Organ Builders of Portland, Oregon as their Opus 24 instrument, and was dedicated on March 5th, 1995.
The dedicatory recital was played by Joseph Adam, organist of St. James Cathedral, Seattle. On March 13th, 2005, the St. John's community celebrated the 10th
anniversary of the instrument with a recital given by James Van Horn, featuring works of Distler, Alain, Albright, and Bach.
The instrument employs mechanical key and stop action: other than the electric blower that fills the bellows, the organ uses the same technology as historic instruments built before electricity.
To see how the stops are assigned, let your mouse hover over the individual draw-knobs in the picture at left. A complete description of the stop list can be found in the database of the Organ Historical Society.
St. John's is delighted to share this unique instrument with the community. It can be heard every Sunday morning and periodically at concerts and special services. Anyone wishing to play the organ is invited to contact the church and make arrangements for a visit.
